Serving With Purpose

Today's update is from Taran and Renée

This past week at Mission of Hope International has been filled with meaningful service and powerful moments of transformation. Mission teams have brought hope to communities, life-changing decisions have been made, and critical projects continue to move forward. Through it all, we see God's hand at work in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

A Life-Changing Decision in La Grúa

One of the most exciting moments from this past week was seeing Lucy, a woman from La Grua, make the decision to follow Jesus! Lucy works at the MOHI house, preparing meals and keeping things running smoothly when teams are visiting. Coming from the very community where we are focusing so much of our efforts, her decision represents the deeper transformation taking root in La Grua. We are incredibly grateful for the many teams who have come down to serve, pray, and plant seeds of faith in this community—seeds that are beginning to bloom!

Watch this video to see how much fun we have with Lucy here at MOHI. (FYI, that's Roselau suggesting that we were making lasagna cookies,)

Building a Sustainable Future: The Chicken Project

Over the past week, we have taken exciting steps toward food sustainability for the START NOW Baby Feeding Program. The children have absolutely loved having eggs as part of their meals, so we have started building a chicken coop to provide a steady supply of eggs for the program. Our goal is to house 30 chickens, ensuring the babies get the protein they need.

We estimate that $3,000 will allow us to complete the coop and purchase the chickens. If you’d like to be part of this project, your support would be greatly appreciated! [Donate to the Chicken Project Here]

Together We Keep the Mission in Haiti Strong

Even in our absence, the work of Mission of Hope International in Haiti continues strong, a testament to the dedication of our incredible team and the unwavering support of our partners.

From preschool through high school, students are engaged in their studies, receiving not only an education but also a daily meal that nourishes their bodies and minds.

The babies in the START NOW program are being cared for, ensuring they receive the nutrition they need to thrive.

Our medical and dental clinics remain open, providing essential care to students, staff, and community members.

Despite the challenges in Haiti, over one hundred people are employed, allowing them to support their families with dignity.

Last night, Pastor Lex arrived back in Haiti, and this morning, he preached at the church in Thozin, bringing encouragement to all who gathered. His presence is always a source of strength, and we are deeply grateful that, through God’s provision and the faithfulness of so many, the mission continues to shine as a beacon of hope.

Sports & Community: Fostering Partnerships in Haiti

On Valentine's Day, the MOHI school soccer team in Grand-Goâve played against another organization's team. More than just a game, this was a moment to reinforce one of our core values: Mutual Respect. We strive to work in partnership with others, strengthening relationships through teamwork, integrity, and shared experiences. It was a joy to see the kids compete, build friendships, and learn valuable life lessons through sports.

Hope Squad: The Impact of Mission Teams

New England Chapel was the sixth team visiting since the start of the year.

Through these teams working together with us, we are witnessing incredible impact in La Grúa. When we first began working in this community, many hesitated to trust us. However, week by week, as mission teams have shown up consistently to serve, love, and invest in relationships, we see hearts beginning to open.

This is the power of serving with purpose—one relationship at a time, one act of kindness at a time, lives are being changed.

One of the most encouraging moments this past week was seeing a local mom, who serves food in the Hope Squad Program, fully engaged with the children. She not only helped distribute food but sat alongside them, coloring and participating in activities—a beautiful sign of how engagement and trust are growing in the village.

We are also thrilled to see more mothers participating in the baby feeding program, staying with their children during meals instead of sending them alone. This small but significant shift is helping build stronger family bonds and encouraging parental involvement.

Medical Outreach: Supporting Our Community Health Workers

This past week, Dina, a visiting nurse practitioner, worked alongside Marlouse, our community health promoter, to check blood pressure, monitor blood sugar levels, and provide essential care to families. Witnessing the dedication and challenges of working in these rural areas was a humbling experience.

It was also a powerful reminder that our medical teams are making a difference in places where healthcare is scarce. We continue to look for doctors, nurses, and medical professionals to join upcoming mission trips and expand these services. [Join a Medical Mission Team]

Three Frenchmen Walked into the Yard...No, Really!

We had a special start to the week as we welcomed three new friends from France. They have been sailing across the ocean, providing dental care to people along their journey. It was a blessing to facilitate a day in La Grúa for the dentist and his team—a medical doctor and a special effects technician—who worked together to treat dental issues and even replace missing teeth. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jerome, Dr. Didier, and Willy!

Mission House Fundraiser: Securing a Permanent Home for MOHI

MOHI continues to grow in the Dominican Republic, and we are working toward purchasing the Mission House in Luperón to establish a permanent base for teams and ministry operations.

Immediate Need: $80,000 by April 1st for the down payment. Total Goal: $650,000 for purchase and necessary renovations, including plumbing updates. Skilled teams are needed for maintenance and improvements.

Your generosity in supporting this mission house will provide a home for future teams, a center for community outreach, and a place where ministry can flourish for generations to come. [Donate to the Mission House Project]
