Excitement in Haiti as the School Year Begins
Pastor Lex had an incredible week in Haiti, full of meetings with administrators, teachers, job applicants, groundskeepers, and parents as we prepared for tomorrow's school openings. The excitement is palpable as we anticipate another great year of learning and growth for our students. This preparation is crucial, and seeing everyone’s commitment to making this year a success is inspiring.
This past week, we made significant progress on our campus by building a foundation and installing a chain-link fence along the road in front of the newer school property. This is a small step in enhancing the safety and appearance of our facilities, and it’s exciting to see these improvements take shape.
Our main campus has been buzzing with activity as we tackled a major cleaning and clearing projects. Even Pastor Lex joined in, chopping down a Kenep tree encroaching on one of the buildings. It’s amazing to see the team’s dedication to keeping our campus beautiful and functional.
One of the highlights of our work here is the meals served with love at MOHI. Every dish is prepared with care, and we’re grateful to be able to provide nutritious food to our START NOW babies. It’s more than just feeding bodies; it’s also nurturing our community.
Our clinics have been very productive this past week. Patients often express their gratitude for the care they receive, sharing how valued, cared for, and well-treated they feel. This is a testament to the compassionate hearts of our medical team, who go above and beyond to provide excellent care.
Pastor Lex enjoyed our annual conference last weekend. This is a time when many churches come together for a time of fellowship and refreshing. Many of the visiting churches brought one of their musical groups with them. It was a wonderful time of rejoicing, too!
New Beginnings and Opportunities in the Dominican Republic
Our summer feeding program has ended with the start of the school year. For many children, school meals are their only source of nourishment.
I think of how most of our students go straight to the fridge in the States when they get home. Imagine having to wait until the next day at school for another meal. (They are NOT hearty meals either.)
Knowing this, we’re now exploring the possibility of further supporting these children with an evening meal. This initiative would feed their bodies and provide spiritual, emotional, and physical support, too.
We are eager to hear from those interested in partnering with us to ensure the sustainability of this program before we begin.
We are so grateful for our baby sponsors, who enable us to feed the babies year-round. Seeing them gain weight and height each month is a joy. God has a plan for each one!
We are gearing up for a city-wide crusade in Luperón. Pastor Lex has been actively meeting with the local League of Pastors, with whom we are partnering for this event. When Pastor Lex leaves the country, Mèt Ben steps in to lead. Our budget for this event is $16,000, and we’ve raised $5,000 so far. The soil in our garden has been tilled, and last week, we sowed a variety of vegetable seeds. We invite you to join us in praying for a plentiful harvest that will greatly impact the babies in our START NOW program. Fresh, nutritious produce is a vital part of their care.
Aquilina, our Bless Back Business Academy coach in Luperón, has been tirelessly visiting her students in their downtown businesses. It’s heartwarming to witness friendships forming as these business owners grow and support one another through this journey.
Nurse Marlouse, who has grown to care deeply about her patients, continues to build strong relationships with them. Relationships are at the heart of everything we do, and we strive to reflect the love of Jesus in all our interactions. Asking people about their stories, praying with them, and truly caring about their well-being is a powerful way to demonstrate God’s love.
Welcome to Our New Team Member in Massachusetts
We are thrilled to welcome Tiffany to our Stateside team. She will work with us in an administrative role twice a week. Tiffany is hard-working, friendly, and joyful, and in love with our babies in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. We’re excited to see how her enthusiasm and passion will contribute to our mission.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. Each of these updates is a testament to God's incredible work through you and Mission of Hope International. Together, we are making a difference in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and beyond.
