Esperanza de Vida

This week's big event was the crusade in Luperón called “Cristo Esperanza de Vida.” Christ truly is the hope of Life! You can watch it all on YouTube at the following links:

Our visiting team and local church members took to the streets together, passing out flyers and inviting everyone to join us.

Johanna worked with Mèt Ben and Marlouse’s daughters, Micha and Eli, teaching them a dance routine. They were so thrilled to learn from a pro, and even more excited about their new outfits and tambourines! They also practiced at their local church.

Marie Richard and Taran Long were the preachers for the crusade, and both delivered powerful messages. Johanna interpreted for them, and what a blessing she was! God's presence was palpable as we worshiped through song and dance, and each night people responded to the call to follow Jesus. It was a beautiful time of inspiration and transformation.

For me, one highlight was the unity among the local churches and MOHI. Everyone worked side by side, without competition, in a spirit of harmony as beautiful as the event itself. When we first felt led to the Dominican Republic, we did not start a MOHI church. Instead, we focused on building relationships with the existing churches. This crusade was a huge step in the right direction, showing just how powerful it can be when the body of Christ works together.

We were deeply humbled when Lex and the team were called to the platform and presented with a plaque on behalf of Mission of Hope International for the work being done in Luperón. It was such an honor!

Our friend, Pastor Jonel, as the representative of the Association of Pastors of Luperón encouraged us with the following words:

We are incredibly grateful for the support we've received for the "Cristo Esperanza de Vida" crusade in Luperón. The event was a powerful time of worship and outreach, impacting many lives. Our budget for the crusade was $16,000, and thanks to your generosity, we've raised $8,444. However, we still have a deficit of $7,556. Would you prayerfully consider donating here to help us cover the remaining costs and continue sharing the hope of Christ? Every gift makes a difference!

Watching this crusade come together, witnessing the collaboration and the spirit of excellence among the churches, the gratitude expressed by the pastors, and the ministry that took place these past three nights, I am utterly awed by God.

I am awed by the realization that the LORD transformed the lives of a poor little boy, living in poverty, and a troubled runaway reject - the least of the least. HE chose to utilize those the world would see as "nobodies" (we know in Christ this is simply not the case) to impact others. That HE would call others alongside to strengthen weaknesses and forge lifelong friendships. That HE would make a way to use all of us to impact the little city of Luperón, to elevate a seemingly lowly city by pouring out HIS presence for all to see. May Luperón continue to choose the Way, that is Jesus, the Light of the World, to walk in that Light and reflect HIM to all people.

Our team in Luperón is such a blessing—Brian, Marie, Olga, Johanna, Cassie, Carole-Ann, George, Kathy, Melky, and Lisa, you all ROCK!!! And a special shoutout to Taran for stepping in and being such a solid support for Lex this week.

Here's what the team had to say about the importance of this crusade:

Throughout the week, the team stayed busy. Nurse Marlouse and Lisa visited little Isaac to change his dressings, and he gave them the biggest smile.

They also helped with baby feedings in the START NOW program.

They played with the kids everywhere they went, bringing so much joy to the communities - and encouraging much-needed naps.

The sight of clean water being enjoyed by the community is a blessing we never take for granted.

Marlouse, Lisa, Kathy, and Olga worked hard, treating many children for lice.

We also had a sweet time with 112-year-old Martina, who received hugs and a special song from the team.

Of course, there’s always a little time for fun! The team enjoyed the beach, including a visit to one of our favorite spots, Fricolandia.

Back at the mission house, moments of prayer and worship have filled the space with peace and unity.

Little Baidi has the sweetest spirit.

We’re getting ready to start planting again!

Olga captured some lovely shots of the many doves that come and go at the mission house.

And watch out, Luperón! Marlouse is learning to drive!!!

Meanwhile, back in Haiti, the students and staff have been working hard and enjoying the opportunity to receive and share education.

Our babies are well taken care of, enjoying various nutritious meals daily.

The medical clinic continues to serve our students, staff, and the surrounding community five days a week, providing vital healthcare services.

Thank you for your attention, prayers, generosity, and encouragement. We are so grateful for all that God is doing in and through each of you.
