Challenges Amid Blessings

Sunday, February 4, 2024 In light of the uncertain political climate in Haiti, MOHI has made the difficult decision to close schools for the week, prioritizing the safety of our students and staff. While unusual for us, this preemptive stance is a necessary measure during this politically charged season. We ask for your prayers for the safety and well-being of our friends in Haiti as the country navigates crucial times ahead.

Despite the challenges faced in Haiti right now, this past week was filled with moments of joy and learning. Our classrooms buzzed with energy as students engaged in math activities using manipulatives and working at the chalkboard. The dedication of our students and staff continues to inspire us.

A significant event took place this week as parents gathered for a big assembly where report cards were distributed. Pastor Clement led everyone in prayer, reinforcing the importance of spirituality, community, and education. The involvement of parents in their children's academic journey is a testament to the collaborative spirit within MOHI communities.

Promoting health and hygiene, our preschoolers are taught the importance of washing hands before meals. These foundational habits contribute to the overall well-being of our young learners, fostering a healthy environment in which they can grow and thrive.

The infants in Thozin are thriving, enjoying nutritious meals and steadily gaining weight. Your support enables us to provide essential care and sustenance for these little ones, ensuring they have a strong start in life.

Wideline, a young mother from Grand-Goave, expressed her gratitude for the MOHI Clinic. When her baby exhibited concerning symptoms, the clinic provided care and necessary medicines free of charge. Her heartfelt thanks remind us of the impact of our healthcare initiatives on the lives of those in need.

In the Dominican Republic, progress continues on the construction of the new building for the Haitian Baptist Church of Luperón. The walls are going up, and concrete columns are being poured, bringing us one step closer to a space where the community can gather and worship.

Nurse Marlouse's dedication is evident as she extends care to four villages, including Cambiaso. Her recent discovery of a returning patient highlights the importance of consistent healthcare access, ensuring individuals receive the attention they need for their well-being.

Excitement brews as MOHI begins investing more in the babies living in the Imbert bateyes (La Grúa and Baraguana). The distribution of vitamins and upcoming weekday feedings mark the initiation of a program focused on the well-being of these infants. Education will play a pivotal role in supporting caregivers and laying the foundation for the babies' futures. Would you like to play a direct role in the well-being of a baby? Please drop me an email and I will give you the details and get you started sponsoring a baby.

A warm welcome to "Life Team" from Massachusetts and New Hampshire! They arrived in Luperón last night.

We look forward to a week filled with collaboration and positive impact as we join forces with the energetic Life Team to serve the communities we hold dear. Their lively spirit is evident, and after a delightful dinner and debrief last night, the team ventured downtown to our cherished evening hangout – the ice cream shop!

Upon their return, a spontaneous time of prayer and worship unfolded, leaving a profound impact on one of our staff members. We rejoice in this unexpected blessing and praise the LORD for the spiritual moments that enrich our community.

This morning, many members of the team rose early, with some opting for a refreshing walk. Post breakfast and devotions, they actively participated in a service at the Haitian Baptist Church of Luperón, followed by an insightful tour of the area and a visit to the ongoing church construction site.

The adventures don't stop there as they embark on another exciting journey this afternoon. With a happening week unfolding before us, we are grateful for the enthusiasm and dedication that the Life Team brings to our mission. Together, we anticipate making a lasting impact on the lives and communities we serve, creating memories and moments that echo the spirit of unity and purpose at the heart of MOHI.

As we reflect on the past week's activities, challenges, and blessings, we are reminded of the resilience and strength within the MOHI community. Your continued support and prayers play a crucial role in empowering us to make a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve. Together, we press on toward a future filled with hope, education, and community.
