Certainly Better Together

January 22, 2023

Psalm 9:1-2

"I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;

I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.

I will be glad and exult in you;

I will sing praise to your name, O Most High."

When we see these little ones, we know they depend on adults to care for them. We are so grateful for the Lord's provision for them at MOHI through the baby feeding program.

We know that students need good teachers and role models in order to succeed.

What about the rest of us? Most of us work hard, and we accomplish some good things. But when we work together? Wow!

We have been partnering with Bless Back Worldwide for over a decade, and both organizations are accomplishing so much more together. It's been three years since Bless Back last visited MOHI in Haïti, but their deep commitment to this partnership and to enhancing healthcare for our friends in Haïti is still impacting lives there.

We just completed an incredible week in the Dominican Republic with 14 people from Bless Back Worldwide. There's simply nothing quite like serving people together, in the name of Jesus, and in very significant ways. Together we conducted mobile clinics in three villages, Cambiaso...

La Grua...

and Playa de Cambiaso.

We saw so many patients with chronic illnesses - especially high blood pressure and diabetes. Most of the patients we consulted did not have the financial means to purchase medications on an ongoing basis. Many were rationing the medications while others stopped taking them altogether. This spurred on many conversations about how to address these illnesses long-term, as they are deadly when left untreated.

We did health screenings one day at the Luperòn elementary school...

The children enjoyed special activities at each location.

And we began constructing a new permanent home for the Haitian Baptist Church of Luperòn.

If you would like to be a part of building this church, there are two ways you can do so. Click here to donate financially. Be sure to go to the drop-down menu and click "Haitian Baptist Church of Luperòn Construction" to identify the gift correctly. You can also come to Luperòn with us March 4-11 and help with the physical labor. Send me an email now at renee@mohintl.org. I'll help you get signed up to join the team.

Walt Rumfelt, an orthopedic PA with Bless Back Worldwide, was able to meet Saintilien and examine his injuries from an April 3rd motorcycle accident. The Lord brought about a connection while he was here so he could accompany Saintilien to an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon in Puerto Plata. The surgeon immediately ordered blood work, and he is now scheduled to do surgery on Monday. Wow! We'd appreciate your prayers for this young man. He has encountered so many roadblocks to getting this surgery done.

Even with an intense week of work, we were able to make time to do some fun things, like visiting beaches, enjoying a local resort, and visiting a chocolate factory.

Of course, we had to tour the Bay of Luperòn, where Christopher Columbus once sought refuge from a fierce storm. We also had to figure out what was making the water look like it was raining in spots.

A couple of hikes took place, too - although they were just down the road to the ice cream shop.

We all were very grateful for the opportunity to serve together and look forward to next time.

Now, if you've read this far and are still interested, you really should contact me about joining our next team in the Dominican Republic March 4-11. Reach out today at renee@mohintl.org! We are most certainly better together!
